Girl Geeks

Ashley Eckstein, center, the voice of Ahsoka on "Star Wars: The Clone Wars," sent Katie some girl-friendly gear.

Saw this story on CNN while looking for a current event today. I thought it was good. :) And it mentioned ThinkGeek!

Pokepicture

Haha! I have it!
Okay, so it's just a sketch. The colors were just what I had with markers, so don't worry about the fact that raichu and skitty look stupid. Also, I'm thinking of changing your jacket color, because right now you look like a patriotic pirate.
check it!Yeah, the pants will not be that blue. Also, I may remove the socks. Thoughts? Your jacket is too blue, I think it should be a different color. Ideas?
Why yes, those are the first four Hoenn badges. Also, I imagines your Raichu being lazy outside of the battle.

Yeah, Skitty looks like an alien floaty thing. I think I'll have it standing on the ground reaching up instead of jumping.
Bellossom is gather flowers for you. Also, how do you feel about the boots? For me, boots means combat boots, but if you have something else in mind, let me know.
Why yes, that hastily added shape in your pocket is a Pokedex.

Okay, so feel free to let me know about color ideas or any changes you might like.

Secrets . . .

I know that you are busy with schoolwork and such, so me suggesting all of these movies is not very helpful, but there are just many that are entertaining!

This first one is one I had never heard of, but apparently it was nominated for an Academy Award. It's an animated film by the Irish Studio, Cartoon Saloon. It's a fictional story about the book of Kells and a young boy who helps with it. It's called, "The Secret of Kells". I don't know if our library will have it, but you should definitely check, and if they don't, I'll see if I can find a way for you to see it. There is a trailer for it HERE, but what you should really watch is this clip of a song from it, which is HERE. Because it's about Ireland and Kells, I think mom would like this one, too. It is a gorgeous film.

This next link is related to The Secret of Kells in that it was made by the same studio. It's a short animated video along with a Gaelic song that airs on a show in Ireland. The song is called Bean Pháidín, and is about a girl who is in love with a man, Pháidín, and wants his wife to break her legs and die because she would do anything for him. But then she realizes that she has worn herself out chasing after this man. It's very cute, and the song is nice. Watch it HERE.

Finally is another short video about some statistics in Japan. It was made by a Japanese student as a thesis project, and he decided to take a foreigner's perspective to look at some of the problems in Japan. It's interesting and worth a watch. Check it out HERE.

OMG SO MUCH TO POST

Well, not that much TO post, just so much that I'd LIKE to post.

First off! I wasn't sure if I ever made you watch the episode Mismatched from Jane and the Dragon. It's one they didn't air on qubo, and it's one of my favorites because it sort of begins to develop the relationship between Jane and Jester, and it's a genuinely sweet episode. I watched it again recently and thought that if you haven't seen it, you should.

You can watch it HERE in good quality on youtube.

Secondly, some movies you should see.

Practical Magic is about semi-accurate witchcraft. The movie itself is humorous, sweet, romantic, and sometimes scary, but overall I enjoyed it. It stars Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman when they were both fairly young. There's a short TV spot for it HERE, because all of the trailers on youtube were terrible quality. You should definitely see if our library system has it. Here's a quote that was hilarious within the movie:

Sally Owens: And I don't want them dancing naked under the full moon!
Aunt Jet Owens: No, of course. The nudity is entirely optional. As you well remember!

Next is Titan A.E., which I showed Greg the trailer for. This movie is really good. REALLY GOOD. Find it at the library and make Greg watch it with you. Trailer is HERE. It stars the voices of Matt Damon and Drew Barrymore. And a quote:

Cale: Maybe I've been wrong all these years, and it's taken your inspiring speech to make me see it. You've really changed me. It's beautiful. I think we've gotta hug.

Finally, there's Sydney White (And the Seven Dorks). It's an Amanda Bynes movie, which means that it is definitely not an artistic statement about finding yourself in college, but it is entertaining. As usual, Amanda plays a cute, but not girly character, this time leaving for college to hopefully join the same sorority her dead mother belonged to. Things happen, people learn to be themselves, etc. etc. blah blah blah. Trailer for it is HERE. What's most entertaining about it, though, is the "Seven Dorks". There are so many geek-related jokes that I wondered if the typical Bynes fan would appreciate the movie. I know you've never heard of Fangoria (it's a horror movie magazine), but one of the dorks wears a shirt with it's logo and I almost DIED because I was so impressed that they didn't just give him a Spiderman shirt and pretend that was true geekiness. A few quotes this time, because the Dorks just keep 'em coming:

Gurkin: [updating his blog] Does anyone know another word for "douchebaggery"? I don't want to use it a third time.

Terrence: [at a DJed party] Do you think they have the Doctor Who theme song?

Tyler: I... doubt it.

Terrence: [holds up a CD] That's okay, I brought my own.

And now for something completely different.

PICTURES!

Yeah, this has been pretty text-heavy, so I'm going to lighten it up with some visual fluff. You will now see: My re-painted Barbie, her outfit, ability to stand, and her scorpio tattoo. My own painted libra "tattoo", and all of the zodiac signs I painted afterward. You, stirring up some fabric, and then looking adorable as Aeris. ENJOY.

Also, if you wanted to watch The Craft online, you try to HERE. Otherwise, our library system should have it.

Historical Accuracy

One of the reasons that I am continuously acquiring new books is that I am always in need of knowledge to consume. As you might have guessed, this is one of the reasons that I love the internet. There is so much to read, and so much to be learned!
So, the subject I am educating myself on right now is . . . historical costuming!
The great thing about historical fashion is that so many people are passionate about it, so finding great information is easy.
Anyways, a site I've been perusing recently is "Reconstructing History". It seems to be an actual shop in Pennsylvania, but there's a section of their site that has pages of period clothing information. Some of their categories include: Celtic, Japanese, and 17th Century; and all of those categories have sub-categories, too, with pictures and comments about accuracy.
I really get into costumes because of the thoughts they open for drawings and stories. So, um . . . yeah.

From the LEFT

So I know that you're off being all girl-scouty, but I'm still going to post anyway. First off, TOMOPOP'S CONTEST ENDS MONDAY. Well, technically Tuesday morning, at midnight. Even if you don't think your pictures are the greatest, you should enter anyway, because you never know how things will shape up.
The second thing isn't a link or anything terribly interesting, but I thought I'd share it with you. In my drawing class, which I have on Fridays, we were drawing from a model. We did a series of "gesture drawings", which are quick (10 sec- 2 min) drawings to practice getting the essence of the pose and weight of the person.
Anyways, we had about 4 2-minute gestures, when our professor informed us that she had a special exercise for us. We all made our "OHCRAP" faces and glanced at each other nervously.
"Put your drawing tool in the opposite hand. We'll now draw another 4 gestures with your weak hand.
I was all like, "AGH MY SKILLS WILL DROP I WILL BECOME TERRIBLE I'M NOT A LEFTIE AGH".
They actually weren't too terrible, and I was actually kind of impressed with myself. So, that's my story of a personal encounter with leftieism.
Anyways, here's how they turned out:
OMG WARNING OUR MODEL WAS A GUY AND . . . .
Yeah, you can't actually see anything. Haha.

Aha!

Okay, so this isn't really an interesting post, but I just thought I'd let you know that while I was browsing through gashapon stores on eBay, I came across one of your $1 figures from ACEN. I just thought I'd let you know that she's a character from Air Gear named Emiri Adachi.
Here's the link for the store where I saw here:
So, um, yeah. Oh, and the one you have with the yellow vest and green skirt is from To Heart. I saw her a while ago but I can't remember where. I'll see if I can find her.

I don't know.

Okay, so I just have a quick link for you today, because I saw this and was really excited.
It's a post from the Total Drama Production Blog that has concepts for some of the characters for season 4. Apparently it was leaked, so they decided to put up a better quality version, though apparently some of the concepts have now changed, etc.
So, here, go check it out.

Total Drama Production Blog

There's also some interviews with voice actors, and some high quality screenshots from episodes, so overall the blog is worth a bit of time.

It's my birthday!

Hoopla!
It's my birthday! BWOOSH.
Here's some pictures of my super-awesome-happy-funtime day. If mom and dad want to see the cake, or anything, feel free to show them. Love you!

I finally got to use my VR Troopers candle.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
The cake was actually quite delicious.
Minetta and I were out and about.

Atomic Books is a really cool comic store.
Obviously, I picked up Grand Bazaar.
I also got this Donna Troy: Wonder Woman bust, which was marked down from $45 to $5, because apparently no one would buy it.
It does have a few teeny chips, but I think I can fix those.
I got a blind box Tokidoki cactus dog.
It came with this little skeleton guy. So cute!
I also got a blind box Kidrobot Things That Hurt zipper pull, that also had a Kidrobot sticker.
So, Yeah, I had a pretty good day. Oh, and you can draw stuff on a sign by your farm in GB.

do not ingest

So I've recently been on a kind of "webcomic binge". See, I have a few comics that I check daily, a few I check weekly, and some more that I only check monthly. Well, being a busy college student bee, I've been neglecting most of week and month-ers. I had some free time the other day, so I went back and updated myself on all of the ones that I read, and then decided on one in particular to share with you.

That was a really long beginning, so I'll just get to the meat of this post.
It's called Lead Paint Comics, and it's hilarious. Since there's no specific plot, you can start from either the newest or the oldest comics. Also, the comics are genuinely funny. It doesn't feel trite or as though it's relying on everyone being as cool as it. You can see parts of yourself in it.

So, um. Yeah. Check it out!

CAPTCHA!

Wait, a capture that has nothing to do with Pokemon? How can this be?
This isn't a link, it's just something I did while taking a break from homework. Sorry for overloading with posts, there's just so much bwoosh to cover!
Serious props if you can figure out what I was originally looking at before I screencaptured screencaptures 20 times. (hint: it relates to your link)
Sorry it's so teenie on here.

chibi moon girls

MoonSticks #9 - Haruka & Michiru's Gone Wrong featuring Sailor Uranus/Haruka and Sailor Neptune/Michiru

You might have seen this, since it's a fairly popular Sailor Moon comic, but I don't think I've ever shown it to you before. "MoonSticks", it's called. It's kind of like parody comic strips of the SM world, in chibi-form. I'm no good at explaining things, but it's very funny and cute, and she usually updates somewhat regularly.
                                                               MoonSticks

almost everyday . . .

I love this site, but I don't think I ever shared it with you, which is a shame because it is adorable, hilarious, geeky, and cute. Explaining the site is difficult, because it alternates between comic strips, animations, fanart, and other cute things. All I can say is, it is totally worth looking at. Also, their archive only goes back until May of this year (when they started), so you don't need to worry about being super behind on things.

totally dramatic . . .

Okay, so three links in one day might be a bit much, but I keep stumbling upon stuff that is really cool. Anyways, these are links to Total Drama fanart that I have found on Deviantart that I think you will like. I'm not putting up any images because I don't want to piss off people on DA, so you'll just have to click the links. NYA.

These are the TD characters incorporated into the Zodiac by the artist hielorei. The images are well designed and well executed. All of the characters are placed with what I find to be the perfect signs (I'll list just a few here: Geoff and Bridget as Pisces, Trent as Leo, Izzi as Libra, Duncan as Sagittarius).I couldn't find them all in one folder on hielorei's account, so I just have them from the search. There are a few other versions of the TD Zodiac at the bottom of the page, but I find them less impressive.

I quite like the artist Fukari, and the Total Drama section of the gallery is really nice. There isn't a huge volume of work, but the pieces are well drawn and humorous. The style is the artist's, and I find the interpretation of the characters to be really well done. Most of the work focuses on Gwen and Duncan, which is a pairing I'm totally into.

ma-ri-no doesn't have many pictures in her gallery, but the ones she does are well done computer graphics. The only two here that I find really interesting are the two pictures of LeShawna and Gwen in their formal dresses (for a high school dance). I really hope she continues to add other characters.

That's all for now. BWOOSH.

musically speaking

I don't know when you'll read this, but I do know that you NEED to share this link with Greg.
I just found this site today while I was looking for video game sheet music (which I found, and will share with you another day). Anyways, the site is called, simply, the Video Game Music Archive. I have found quite a few VG music sit
es before, but what impressed me about this site in particular is how comprehensive it its. It has music from HM 64, Snow Boarding Kids 2, Alladin (SNES), Neo Geo games, even a few RPG Maker tunes (PS1). I am wowed by this site and the fact that I never found it before. The songs are easy to listen to and download. They're in MIDI format, but you can still add them iTunes. I have yet to think of a game that I cannot find on this site, it is AMAZING.
So, if you ever get a song stuck in your head from a game you played long ago (I personally have been humming Linda' Castle all day), you need to get your browser over to this site.
Like I said, please let Greg know about this. Every game he has ever played is waiting for him to add it's music to his iPod.

EDIT: Okay, so MIDI files will play on iTunes, but they won't play on your iPod. Never fear, though! You can download and use Midi Converter Studio! It's free, and the page I just linked explains how to use it. Once you convert the files to MP3s, they should play on your iPod. Yay video game music!

when you get there, scroll down and the menu is on the left side of the page

it figures . . .

Okay, How a Girl Figures is a site I've been following for a while now, but I couldn't remember if I had ever shown it to you. Right now she's been very slow with updates, because of some personal issues, but her gallery of figure reviews is extensive, and evenwithout new updates, I can always find plenty to look at. Some of the figures are NSFW, just to let you know. If she gets cast-offable figures (figures with removable clothing), she'll review them with and without their clothes. You can probably tell by reading the beginning of the review if the figure will display its breasts, though, so it won't sneak up on you and be all like, "BAM! Breastulage."
The pictures are all great quality, too, and she has a knack for finding interesting settings to have photoshoots. Drool-worthy photos of drool-worthy figures.

tomopop

Okay, so I know that this is two posts in, like, a half hour, but I HAD to share this with you. I was planning on saving Tomopop for something super crazy, but this contest is really cool.
Tomopop is a figure-based site that updates several times a day. They cover urban vinyl, customs, action figures, gundams, anime figures, plushies, and a lot of other toy-related news and reviews. Basically, they are awesome.
And, they are having a very open-ended photography contest, of which there will be five winners, each winner getting to pick one out o
f five figures (all of which are pretty nice). The only real rule is that they want the photographs to be more artistic, and less comedy-based. Otherwise, any figure, style of photo, and subject matter is pretty much fine. It doesn't even have to be an anime figure, as long as it's a toy.
So, yeah, check it out and maybe consider entering. You could probably do something really cool with the pinky rooms, because we made those REALLY detailed. Final date for submission is October 12.

poketastic

This is kind of late, so you might not see it until morning.
Anyways, today's link comes from a Geekologie article (if you're not reading Geekologie, you should be- it's such a comprehensive blog that I won't link it for a specific day). Anyways, this is a fan-made trailer for a gritty, live-action Pokemon film. It's hilarious and serious all in one, plus you get to see what the Pokeverse would look like IN REAL LIFE. Whoa, am i right?
Enjoy.

something to think about

Okay, I have my first link for you here. I actually don't remember how I found this, but I remember when I did, I was so excited.
The blog is called "The Seventeen Magazine Project". Basically, this girl decided to live her life using an issue of Seventeen Magazine for a month and record her thoughts and other people's reaction to her.
She has a lot of interesting things to say, and all of her posts are well-written and thoughtful.
I'll admit that I do like reading Seventeen sometimes. It's nice to occasionally feel like a girl and look at the interesting pictures and the semi-relevant stories. But at the same time, there's so much to be criticized.
So, yeah, enjoy. If you want to.
